The John Muir Odyssey, East Lothian 2009

One of the flagship events of Homecoming Scotland 2009, the John Muir Odyssey, will follow in the footsteps of John Muir, celebrating the life and legacy of this great Scot, regarded as “the Father of modern day conservation”. From his birthplace in East Lothian, with an exciting itinerary, by land and sea, the Odyssey promises dramatic scenery, spectacular coastline and the amazing wildlife that inspired John Muir.
Edinburgh International Science Festival
When: 6th – 18th April 2009 Where: Edinburgh
Twelve days of non-stop shows, workshops, exhibitions, talks, tours, demonstrations and hands-on activities for kids, families and adults, all showing just how much fun science can be. The 2008 event celebrated it’s 20th anniversary in style by attracting over 50,000 visitors to the events, workshops, talks and exhibitions this year in 14 venues across the city including National Museums Scotland, the Royal Botanic Gardens and Our Dynamic Earth. Sold out events, included Richard Dawkins in conversation with Richard Holloway, Sir David King and Professor Peter Atkin.
Melrose Sevens 126th Tournament
When: 11th April 2009 Where: Melrose
The biggest and best of the Scottish Borders Rugby Sevens events returns for its 126th anniversary. Melrose is the birthplace of Rugby Sevens and is a must-see event for any rugby fan. Melrose Sevens draws thousands of spectators every year to see rugby played at its traditional home.

O'Neil Highland Open

Etape Caledonia

The Etape Caledonia is an 81 mile cycle challenge taking place on traffic-free roads in the stunning scenery of Highland Perthshire.
The event on 17th May 2009 is open to individuals between the ages of 18 and 80.
Isle of Bute Jazz Festival

Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival 2009

A lively celebration of our national drink in one of the most beautiful producing areas - almost fifty world-famous distilleries are located on Speyside. You can visit and tour most during the festival which also features tasting sessions, a gala dinner, ceilidh, tasting session and exhibitions. Heaven for whisky lovers.
Burns an' a' That!

Cape Wrath Challenge
